Versteegh Gets Bronze at Iowa Cyclocross State Championship

It was a beautiful day for Cyclocross. The AllNineYards team had set up a new course in Altoona, and that course got good reviews by everyone. The weather was great, with temperatures in the 70s.

With the good weather, and state championships on the line, the parking lot was full of racers. There was over 40 racers in the cat 4s, which is pretty good for Iowa. Scott Sumpter competed in this class for MOB Racing finishing in 25th.

There was also a good turnout for the Seniors, with around 30 racers toeing the line in the+ 35 and the + 45 classes. Both Sean Myers and and Jeff Farrell competed in the +45 class for MOB Racing, finishing in 15th and 16th place respectively.

The highlight of the day was the was the "A" race. Sure there was the battle for 1-2 with Brian Eppen and Tony Nichols (Brian would win by a wheel in the end). But the highlight for me was watching Rob Versteegh come from behind after spraining his ankle on a barrier in the second lap and falling to nearly last place. After a time out for a little soul searching, he then went on a RAMPAGE, and passed nearly the whole field to finish 7th overall, and third in the Cat 3 competition! Congratulations Rob on the bronze medal!
