The MOB Racing team had it's first mountain bike race of the season at the VEISHEA mountain bike race at Peterson Park in Ames, Iowa. The MOB was well represented with Rob Versteegh and Chris Hansen in the Expert class, and Scott Sumpter and Paul Varnum in the Sport class.
The snow at Peterson's was just barely melted, and with rain earlier this the week, the conditions looked a little questionable. By race time the course was nice and tacky, except for one mud bog near the river. Oh, well. This is mountain bike racing after all.
The Expert race started with Versteegh and Hansen swapping the lead back and forth in the early laps. Aster a few laps Hansen pulled away from Versteegh, Versteegh caught back on, and then Hansen stopped for a burger. Versteegh stayed strong and won the race! Hansen held on to finish fourth.
In the Sport race Varnum started the race in front, but went down hard in the first section. After dusting himself off, and getting an "are you OK?" from Sumpter. Varnum was able to work his way back to second place, before fading his way back to fourth. Sumpter finished in sixth place.

There were lots of positive comments about the new kits.

Post race cool down - MOB style.
Spoils go to the victor. In this case a t-shirt, frisbee, and a cold one.
